MOVING DAY WITH YOUNG KIDS
TIPS TO HELP YOU KEEP YOUR AND YOUR KID’S SANITY ON MOVING DAY.
Moving day is here. Boxes are packed, the truck will arrive in a couple hours, and you’re about to step out of your house for the last time. Moving day can be emotional and stressful not only for you, but also for your kids. Today we’re going to take a look at what you can do to make sure they’re comfortable, safe, and happy the day of the actual move.
LABEL THE KID’S BOXES WITH AS MUCH DETAIL AS POSSIBLE
Don’t just label them as “toys”, but include as much detail as you can about the content. This way you’ll know exactly where to find that green tow truck that they need right now.
RECRUIT SOME HELP
You may feel ready for the task, but getting extra help from friends and family can really save you a lot of stress and headache. You’ll feel better knowing that someone is watching your kids while you’re moving boxes around and going in and out of the house.
SAVE ONE BOX OF TOYS UNTIL THE END
You’ll want your kids to have something to keep them entertained right up until it’s time to leave. You’ll also have that box handy when it’s time to unload the truck and you need to give them something to do.
HAVE A FUN-BAG FOR EACH KID
Put some of your kid’s favorite toys, books, and activities in a small backpack that is to stay with them at all times.
PACK A FEW EMERGENCY OUTFITS
Chances are that at some point during the trip to your new home your kids will make a mess. You want to be ready with a few changes of clothes when this happens.
CONSIDER USING PULL-UPS
If you have a kid that recently learned to go potty in bathroom, consider putting them on a pull-up during the trip. This way you don’t have to worry if you can’t get them to the bathroom right away.
PLAN FOR PLENTY OF BREAKS EN-ROUTE
If you’re driving to your destination, research ahead of times good places to stop along the route. You’ll want to find some kid-friendly restaurants, parks, and places to stay overnight. You can also make the trip an adventure by finding exciting spots that would be fun for you and your kids to explore.
CREATE A MEAL PLAN & PACK SNACKS FOR THE ROAD
Without kids, you can usually just eat fast food for a couple of days while you’re packing and moving. However, with kids, mealtime becomes a whole different game. Make sure your kids continue to get the nutrition they need by planning meals ahead of time and stocking up on necessary snacks.
MOVING BOXES MAKE GREAT FORTS AND TUNNELS!
Once you arrive to your new home and unpack, start the fun for your kids by building forts and tunnels with them. This way you can start creating whole new wonderful memories in the new place!
