HISTORY

Surveyed all the way back in 1833, Stoughton got its start as a sawmill and farming town. Later, the area became a popular resort and skiing destination. It’s always been known for its Norwegian heritage and the celebration of Syttende Mai, also known as Norwegian Independence Day. Stoughton is also home to the oldest operating community cable channel in the country, WSTO TV.

The Stoughton Area School District receives an above average rating of B from Niche.com, with high marks in academics and college prep. The district includes three elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school.
